Poha Recipe | Onion Poha with potato

Poha is a light breakfast that is easy and quick to prepare and taste good too. Some people use a potato to make Poha, and some people like to add onion and some people like to add both onion and potato. So there are many variations in the recipe for making Poha.

Poha in Gujarat is also known as Potato Poha and Batata Poha. It is also good for our health. to make it more nutritious, you can add potatoes, green peas, grated carrots, pomegranate seeds, roasted peanuts, and coriander leaves.

Some tips for making Poha

  • First of all, soak the Poha well.
  • While preparing the Pohe, pay attention to whether the Poha is well or not.
  • If not throat then sprinkle some water and mix well.
  • It is very important to melt the Poho properly, otherwise, the Pohe will not be soft.
  • I also add boiled peas or grated carrot when making this Poha recipe. This makes this dish more healthy and nutritious.

How to make Poha

  • Rinse the Poha in water till they soften.
  • You should keep Pohe well for a long time until it is easily crushed or mashed.
  • Now add sugar, and salt to the Poha and gently mix.
  • Roast the peanuts in a pan till they become crunchy.
  • Heat oil in the same pan.
  • Add mustard seeds; when they start to splutter, add cumin seeds, green chilies, curry leaves, peanuts and a pinch of asafoetida. Allow them to sizzle until chilies turn crisp for approx.
  • Then add onions and saute them till they become translucent.
  • Add chopped potatoes and salt.
  • Mix well and cook covered until potatoes turn tender. This will take around 3-4 minutes. Stir in between occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Add turmeric powder.
  • Add soaked Poha.
  • Mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Add lemon juice and finely chopped coriander leaves.
  • Mix well and turn off the flame.
  • Poha is ready for serving.

  • 400 g Poha
  • 1 Onion finely chopped
  • 1 potato peeled and  finely chopped
  • 1 cup peanut
  • 1/4 tsp  Turmeric Powder
  • 1/3 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 8-10 8-10 Curry Leaves
  • 2 tsp Green Chili,  finely chopped
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida (Hing) optional
  • 1/2 tsp  Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Sugar

  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Leaves finely chopped
